In the past few weeks I’ve experienced many reactions from locals when I talk about how excited I am to be a part of creating a new chapter for a downtown hotspot. I’ve had many say how excited they are about Mountainside Creative to be staying open. How the space that Barbara Buehl and Deanna Urban have created is such a magical hidden treasure located on the downtown mall. I am so greatly for what they have created as well. I am looking forward to keeping the space going while adding my own additions to the space and community.
Some have expressed concern for how the downtown mall is so empty and there is no traffic. While spending my own time down there I have seen nothing but potential for a thriving community if others are willing to take a stand and do something to activate their opportunities. I look around and often see people watching the birds rather than greeting their neighbor as they walk down the streets. I think to myself that with just a few more smiles around the block how much could change.
Today I stumbled upon this article:
Risk-takers key to Asheville’s revitalization
Thanks to Regina Holliday who is a huge inspiration and active part in pushing her own community and beyond to the next level.
This gives me hope as I read about how Asheville one of my favorite places was once not so long ago so similar and how all of a sudden because of a few risk takers it all changed! I feel like Cumberland is about to be in the surge of this economic boom as well. Downtown just needs some more risk takers!
I keep thinking whoever is the first extremely vegan and vegetarian or even all locally grown foods ect. type of restaurant down on the bricks would be one of the smartest investors around. I’m not personally a vegetarian but I do know so many that are and aren’t that would be SO supportive of this type of establishment.
We also need a few more themed shops down there to attract some people. A nice boutique would be amazing, local clothing or fashionistas with a vision. A shop for the guys would be good too I hear the guys asking for a space to find cool clothes and gadgets too.
There’s gotta be a group of guys or even ladies, who better than to dress the men than those who look at them all day? Someone get on this… I know you are out there and would love to be entrepreneurs and order the coolest clothes and things you like to invest in to make it easier for those who can’t get it online.
Or someone with a themed wi-fi cafe’ or kava bar open in the evenings or all hours. Get those ACM and FSU students in there and create a hotspot for friends to communicate and create awesome dreams of their own.
Activate your community.
Fill those empty shops with opportunities to help others. Give people jobs and help others do something they love as well. Treat them like you would wish to be treated. Keepin’ it to local small business’ would be nice. We just need groups of people who can work together to create dream spaces that can thrive together to create the experience.
Do what you love. Create a space you would enjoy to have in your world. I believe in the good things coming! I AM activating in the community. I AM determined to do my part. Are you?
It’s Shine Time 2016. I want to see my community THRIVE not just survive.
